Protocol #10: Tomos Restoring Autonomy in Italy

On August 14/27, Metropolitan JOHN, acting in concert with the Holy Synod, elevated the Old Calendar Metropolia of Italy under His Beatitude, Metropolitan ONUFRIE of Bergamo, to an fully Autonomous Metropolia, to restore what had been lost through the schism of the “self-deposed” Metropolitan Evloghios of Milan. The independence of the Italian Church has now been recognized by our Sister Churches in Greece and Russia.

The Tomos elevates Metropolitan ONUFRIE of Bergamo to the headship of the fourth self-governing Church in our Sacred Communion, as we continue to ensure that the Mysteries and ministrations of the True Church are available to the faithful throughout the world.

With this Tomos, the Autonomous Metropolia of North and South America and the British Isles also fulfills Her responsibility to the Church in Italy, which granted us our ecclesiastical independence in 2011.
