His Beatitude, Metropolitan John, recently made a pastoral visit to our Metropolia’s newly created Orthodox Western Rite Monastery of Sts. Alban and Aethelwold, located at Botel Castle in Scotland. During this visit Metropolitan John ordained Hierodeacon Aethelwold to the Holy Priesthood on Thursday, September 1st on the Church Calendar [i.e. September 14th on the civil calendar], it being the Feast of St. Giles of Narbonne, and then on Saturday, September 3rd on the Church Calendar [i.e. September 16th on the civil calendar], the Feast of the Ordination of St. Gregory the Great [the Dialogist], Hierodeacon Augustine was ordained to the Holy Priesthood by Metropolitan John.
The Abbey of Sts. Alban and Aethelwold is the only Orthodox monastery in Britain that practices the traditional Orthodox Western Rite of the ancient Fathers. The monastery is near Balbeatttie [DG7 IPA, UK]
